These terms govern your use of Photo Trace at myphototrace.com. By using the site you accept them. They are written plainly because the arrangement is a simple one: the tool is free, it runs in your browser, and nothing is sold.
Photo Trace reads the metadata already contained inside a photograph — the date and time, the camera and its settings, and the coordinates if the camera recorded any — and presents it in a readable form. It may also generate a written description of a photograph using a third-party AI model, at your request.
Reading of photo files happens entirely within your own browser, on your own device. Photographs are not uploaded to us, not stored by us, and not transmitted to any third party, except in the one case described under AI descriptions below.
Photo Trace requires no account and no registration. There is no charge to use it, no limit on how many photographs you may read, and no feature reserved for anyone. We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site at any time, including the site as a whole, without notice and without liability to you.
You keep every right you have in the photographs you open with Photo Trace. We claim no ownership, licence or interest in them. Because files are read locally and never reach us, we hold no copy of your photographs and cannot retrieve, restore or inspect anything you have opened.
You are responsible for having the right to use any photograph you open, and for how you use the information Photo Trace shows you. In particular, you must not use it to locate, track, identify or harass any person, or in any way that breaches another person's privacy or the law.
If you choose to request an AI description, and only then, that single photograph is sent to a third-party AI provider to generate the description, and the coordinates read from the file may be sent with it so that the description refers to the correct place. This happens only when you press the button, never automatically.
Descriptions are produced by a machine learning model and may be wrong, incomplete, or confidently mistaken. They are offered as a convenience, not as a statement of fact, and must not be relied upon as evidence of what a photograph shows or where it was taken.
Metadata is written by the camera or phone that took the photograph, not by us. Devices differ in what they record and how they record it, and some applications alter or remove metadata when a file is shared. Photo Trace reports what it finds in the file you give it. It cannot verify that the information is correct, and the absence of a date or a location means only that the file does not carry one.
Nothing shown by Photo Trace should be treated as authoritative for any legal, investigative, insurance, journalistic or evidentiary purpose. If a matter is important, have the original file examined by a qualified professional.
You agree not to interfere with the operation of the site, attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of it or its infrastructure, use automated means to place unreasonable load upon it, or use it for any unlawful purpose or in breach of these terms.
Contributions made through the support page are voluntary payments towards the running costs of the site. They are not the purchase of any product, service, subscription or licence. Making one grants no additional features, no removal of limits, no account, no priority support and no other entitlement, and declining to make one takes nothing away.
Because nothing is bought, there is nothing to cancel and no service to be delivered or withdrawn. If you contribute in error, or contribute an amount you did not intend, write to support@myphototrace.com within 30 days and we will refund it, without needing a reason. Payments are processed by Razorpay; their own terms apply to the payment itself, and we never see or store your card, UPI or banking details.
The site may display advertising to cover its costs. Advertisements, and any site you reach through one, are operated by third parties whose content, conduct and privacy practices we do not control and are not responsible for. The same applies to any other external site we link to.
Photo Trace is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or uninterrupted availability. You use it at your own risk.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, Photo Trace — including any loss arising from reliance on metadata or an AI description, loss of data, or loss of profit, revenue or opportunity. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

These terms may be updated from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India shall have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
